OBITUARY Gary Woodrow Wooten - March 21, 1954 – June 24, 2021

Gary Woodrow Wooten, 67, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Thursday June 24, 2021. He was born in Portsmouth, VA the son of Robert Gaston and Edna Cameron Wooten.

The family moved to Greensboro in 1958. Gary graduated from Grimsley High School in 1972. He was very athletic and enjoyed sports, especially baseball, softball and football. Gary was a gifted mechanic and had worked at several places, including Crown Pontiac Honda. He enjoyed fishing and loved to pull those bass and trout out of the lake.

Gary was easy going and generous with his time and possessions and helpful to his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Robert Edward Wooten.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Rose Wooten of Walkertown; his grandson, Adam Walters; brother, Larry Wooten and wife Linda of North Myrtle Beach, SC; nephews, Clay Wooten, David Wooten, Grant Wooten; many cousins in Sanford and surrounding area and a close friend for many years, Dawn Heatherly of Greensboro.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Randall West. The family will receive friends following the service.

Gary was a Greensboro local checker player who usually attended our group gathering at Bojangles or McDonalds and local tournaments until his health prohibited him from attending. He also was one of the 10 who we gave a copy of The Little Giant Encyclopedia of Checker Puzzles as a Christmas present to new members.

Memorials may be made in Gary's memory to the charity of the donor's choice.
